Secured Advantage to Serve Region with Larger Team

Credit Union to Consolidate Duncan Branch into Simpsonville Operations

August 15, 2022

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. – Secured Advantage Federal Credit Union today announced plans to move its Duncan branch staff to its Simpsonville location to form a central location to serve the booming Upstate markets. Through its Simpsonville branch and digital channels, the credit union will be serving the growing rural communities in the region that are facing challenging financial times.

In 2020, Secured Advantage received a low-income designation for the region, meaning a majority of its members live in low-income areas. From the cities of Duncan, Lyman, Welford and Inman, to the City of Woodruff to Fountain Inn and all the surrounding communities, the Simpsonville-based credit union is focused on accessible, reliable banking access. This includes helping people rebuild or establish credit, serving those who lack a regular banking relationship, and being a healthy alternative to high-cost payday lenders.

Earlier this year, Secured Advantage added commercial lending. Today, small businesses that have needs are often considered too small by the big banks can gain access to affordable credit cards, lines of credit, vehicle and equipment loans, business checking and savings.

The credit union will close the lobby of its Duncan location at 126 W. Main St. on Sep. 1, followed by closing fully on Oct. 31 and merging with the Simpsonville branch. It originally opened in 2016 following the relocation of Sealed Air’s corporate headquarters from Duncan to Charlotte. Since then, the credit union has expanded its field of membership, and according to Secured Advantage CEO Michal Parker,  most members have transitioned from the traditional banking model toward digital platforms.

“More of our members are managing their money using our user-friendly digital tools,” Parker said. “Our Simpsonville location serves as an exceptional center point for high service delivery online, by phone, and when needed, in-person.”

The credit union plans for all Duncan office personnel to transition to the Simpsonville office. Parker calls the Duncan team “highly regarded,” and stresses their addition in Simpsonville doesn’t duplicate service but accelerates regional market traction.

“This is an exciting time at Secured Advantage,” Parker said. “We are well positioned to execute an aggressive strategy to raise awareness, to serve the unbanked and underbanked, to provide financial guidance, and empower people in Duncan, the Golden Strip and Five Forks areas to do more with their money.”

From chambers of commerce to neighboring schools to local nonprofits, Secured Advantage is investing in local communities by way of sponsorship, volunteerism, and financial education. When it comes to lending, the credit union stands ready to say “yes” when other financial institutions say “no,” Parker said.

“We recognize many people are anxious about money,” she said. “Inflation is high, and it tends to impact low- and middle-income households the most. We have a saying here, ‘Together, we’re stronger.’ And we truly believe that for all the folks along the Highway 417 corridor. Our mission is to help these communities thrive.”

The Simpsonville branch maintains the same hours as the Duncan branch, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members who enjoy working with the Duncan staff can still reach them at (864) 916-2650.
